The ingredients needed to make Amla Rasam:
  1. Prepare 1/2 cup amla (gooseberry) paste
  2. Prepare 1 tsp. cumin seeds
  3. Get 1/4 tsp. whole peppercorns
  4. Make ready 2-3 garlic cloves
  5. Take 1 tbsp. oil
  6. Make ready 1/2 tsp. mustard seeds
  7. Prepare pinch asafoetida
  8. Make ready 1 dry red chilli

  10. Take 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  11. Take to taste salt
  12. Get 2-3 cups water
  13. Get 1 tsp. coriander leaves, chopped
Steps to make Amla Rasam:
  1. Grind cumin seeds, peppercorns and garlic along with some water into a smooth paste. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan & temper with mustard seeds, dry red chilli, asafoetida and curry leaves. Saute for a few seconds.
  3. Add the cumin paste and turmeric powder. Saute till the oil separates.
  4. Add the amla paste, salt & 2 cups water. Simmer for 4-5 minutes on a low flame.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve as a side dish with rice or enjoy as a soup / appetizer.
