Dal Tadka is a North Indian dal (lentil) recipe made from Toor Dal & gets its distinct taste from a flavorful & aromatic tempering of ghee, cumin seeds, heeng (asafoetida) & red chillies. How to make Dal Tadka Dhaba Style - Dal Tadka is a Dhaba Staple, found easily at any Dhaba. Very Tasty and Easy to make. Toor Dal made with onions, tomato's, garlic and ginger.
Steps to make Dal Tadka:
- Soak chana dal and tur dal in 30 minutes in warm water
- Boil the dal in pressure cooker up to 3 whistles and keep it aside
- Heat the oil in a pan then add cumin seeds and cloves, add onion as it crackles
- Stir it till onion is half cooked
- Add tomatoes and green chilli and stir till tomatoes are cooked
- Add salt, turmeric, chilli powder and mix it well
- Add dal and cilantro and mix it well
- Cook the dal for 7-8 minutes on medium heat and stir it occasionally*
- At the time of serving heat another pan with ghee
- Add whole and dry red chillies
- Add garlic and sauté it for 1-2 minutes
- Add asafoetida and sauté it for 30 seconds
- Pour the mix on to the dal and mix it
- Dal tadka is ready to be served
- Note: * Generally the consistency of this dal is thick, make the dal consistency as desired by adding water or boiling it for some more time.
